Highlights: Paige VonAchen is an M3 MD-PhD (Industrial and Operations Engineering) at the University of Michigan Medical School. Prior to starting medical school, Paige worked at the Boston Consulting Group in Chicago, where she focused on health care projects. Paige is a co-founder of Med ECG and has worked with Packard Health.
Education: Paige earned her BS from the Northwestern University where she studied mechanical engineering. She is in her third year of medical school and will soon begin her PhD, where she is funded by the National Institute of Health.

Select Experiences:

  • Partnering with non-profit, Last Mile Health, to expand healthcare system into rural Liberia

  • Building linear optimization model based on push-based supply chain to determine optimal distribution of medical supervisory staff and medical supply warehouses

  • Modeling geographic variation in health care outcomes across the United States before and after risk-adjustment

  • Developing statistical methodology to adjust for over 100 population factors, co-morbidities, and health system factors while analyzing mortality, safety, and prevention quality measures across 50% of the US all-payer population

  • Developing strategy for major hospital system to shift towards value-based care, including proposal for acquisition by large integrated health system

  • Building multi-level model to analyze the reliability of physician profiling in the context of Medicare’s MACRA policy

  • Analyzing trade offs of payment reform methodologies to inform Medicare payment reform
