Highlights: Josh Bourque is a first-year student at the University of Michigan Medical School. In medical school, Josh works in conjunction with the Section of Health Services Research and Quality in the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Michigan. Josh is currently leading projects focused on quality improvement in cardiac surgery regarding patient outcomes and value-based measures.
Education: Josh attended the University of Michigan where he earned a BS in Environmental Science with a specialty in Public Health in 2017. He is currently a second-year medical student at the University of Michigan Medical School.
Analysis of the impact of the recent Medicaid expansion on cardiac surgery procedures (such as Ventricular Assist Devices) including procedure prevalence and patient outcomes.
Analysis of the impact of the ICD-9 to ICD-10 code transition on billing and prevalence of heart failure diagnoses.
Worked to organize a medical school “Shark Tank” themed event, bringing local and regional venture capitalists to the medical school for analysis of student-led medical innovation projects.
